The Beano is Britain's longest-running comic. It was introduced in 1938. Dennis The Menace And Gnasher is probably the most famous strip, but Minnie the Minx (with the same black and red-striped jersey, signalling danger), The Bash Street Kids , Lord Snooty and His Pals, and Roger the Dodger are also popular.
The Dandy (of which Desperate Dan is the most famous son) is a sister-title to the The Beano in publisher DC Thomson's stable, and preceded it by a few months - the first issue was in December 1938, and the final one in 2012.
