The Victor and Commando! are very successful titles in the DC Thomson stable of boys' adventure comics.
Commando! first appeared in 1961 and is still being printed. The Commando website (/www.commandocomics.com) describes the comic as Britain’s longest serving war comic. "These stories, with their mixture of excitement, danger and courage under fire, and the dynamic artwork that accompanies them, have won Commando a loyal readership over the decades," it says.
"On land, at sea, and in the air, Commando’s stories cover every corner of the globe and are set throughout world history, the epic tales of bravery in battle making Commando Comics the Home of Heroes!"
The Victor ran from 1961 to 1992. Each year an annual was also published: The Victor Book for Boys. Its strips included Alf Tupper, The Tough Of The Track; Braddock Of The Bombers; Morgyn The Mighty; Joe Bones, the Human Fly; The Hammer Man; Gerald Cadman, a cowardly British officer; The Goals Of Jimmy Grant.
These are all original screenprints. An original print is a work of art printed by hand, from a plate, block, stone, or stencil (which is the case here - screenprints are made using screen stencils) that has been created by the artist for the purpose of producing the image.
