PANDEMIC HOME STUDIO NOW FULLY OPERATIONAL

MAKESHIFT HOME STUDIO NOW WORKING ON ALL CYLINDERSI've cracked the production of my stencils and am now producing screenprints of all sizes at my home studio. The critical element is the exposure of the screens, coated with light-sensitive emulsion, to my templates under UV light. But after a few mistakes, production is now underway.

One of the key parts of the screenprinting process is the paper tearing. But it's kind of invisible – once it's done, it's taken for granted. Except, get it wrong and all my efforts to create good screenprints are doomed from the beginning.

Screenprinting in a time of Covid19

Screenprinting needs a lot of equipment and is usually done in a commercial studio.

Since these are no longer accessible, I've been piecing together all I need to make screenprints at home - the screenwashing chemicals, the pressure blaster, the ultra violet lamp and now I'm ready for my first test.

Heroic failure for home studio

My makeshift equipment for carrying on screenprinting during the pandemic is now up and running, but the first attempt to coat a screen for use as a stencil has failed. But I will try again - these are prints of Scottish favourite Oor Wullie for a commission by the V&A in Dundee.
