The Beano is 80 and to celebrate, its publisher (Britain’s top comic pubisher, DC Thomson) has rounded up a collection of the best bits, in pictures.
I’m delighted to say that Comic Art screenprints feature twice: the front page of the round up includes my screenprint of The Bash Street Kids being taken home in a wheelbarrow by the janitor’s cat; and my screenprint of the title piece of the first Billy the Whizz strip is included in the roundup of the 1960s.
There are also various highlights which I have made screenprints of, including the very first Beano front page and the first Dennis the Menace strip.
You can find the roundup here: https://www.dcthomsonshop.co.uk/blog/80-years-of-beano/The Beano at 80
Comic Art has a special licence from DC Thomson to use its fabulous archive of artwork in screenprints. These are hand-printed by me, John Patrick Reynolds, and my team in west London on cotton, mould-made paper which is milled in Somerset.
